The controls work well and pretty easy as you can order two other A.I. characters in your group to do certain task but you also have to take care of them as the team leader as unlike certain other games with this game your partners can be killed off anytime. So for fans of sci-fi alien invasion games or TPS this is one to take a look at though regardless of the naysayers in the end its the gamers choice. It tosses slight references and names of aliens/weapons around relating to the original XCom, but thats about it. There is no continuity what so ever from this and the more updated geo remake of xcom. I think they continued to push this game out to recover some profit of the time spent on it. Is it a completely horrible game? No. absolutely not. I rather enjoyed it. It does get a little repetative, and there are points where a real XCom nerd like me sees the full potential of how this game COULD have gone. Step back and enjoy it for what it is. a 3rd Person shooter, alien invasion, 1950s. There are cliches abound in the story, and nothing to really pull you in other than the time frame and relation to xcom. If youre on the fence pick it up at a price drop. Others from Logitech do this but the buttons are on the bottom. The Logitech "Flow" software isnt quite there yet, especially cross-platform. I bought this to replace the MX Master 2S. I wish it was a little bigger like the 2S but its adequate. I do like the volume buttons (programmable) on the side better than the roller buttons on the 2S. The rollers on the 2S are difficult to fine-tune. I was always going too high or low. The 720 does a nice job overall. Thumbs up. First, the shape is causing me pain, which isnt the case with its bigger brother, the MX Master. Im not sure if its because its shorter, or less angled, or the position of the buttons, but this shape does not work for me. Furthermore, compared to more sophisticated Logi mice, switching between modes of the scroll wheel requires clicking a dedicated button - which is odly placed and serves as an additional programmable button on the MX Master. The game relies heavily on multiplayer with you having to select a region to play in and join a user created team (or create one) from the get go. Ideally this is great, as you can theoretically be going to battle in Mech style gang wars with people in your local region, all with your own heavily customized war machine. The problem is, there are nowhere near enough people playing this game for that the be successful. I am sure this game is thriving in Japan, but most of the US console market is invested in games like the COD series, etc... to humor this one. If they didnt region lock the multiplayer and fixed the matchmaking and menus, this might be more enjoyable. Theres not much fun in an endless string of "Destroy all AI enemies" maps. The level of customization in this game is awesome though. You really do get to have a sense of ownership when you create your own AC and bring it to the battlefield, though the menus are pretty boring to navigate through. Other than the feeling of ownership you get from making your own AC, theres a TON to be desired. Very outdated graphics(too much brown), a terrible campaign mode with a convoluted story and cheesy dialog, and a broken multiplayer mode. The only reason I am giving this 3 stars, and not less, is that I didnt play it when the game was brand new so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt that there were way more people playing when it was first released. I can see the potential level of fun playing with and against other human players. As of today though, finding anyone in the multiplayer mode is like navigating through the desert in search of shade and water. So if you buy now, you will most likely have to suffer through just playing against super boring AI opponents. Following in the footsteps of Armored Core 4 and Armored Core: For Answer, this game makes significant improvements on the games engine and base mechanics. That said, this game greatly assumes that you have played previous Armored Core games. The in-game tutorial is short and will not adequately equip you for some of the harder missions, and certainly not for Player-versus-Player combat. The finest parts of the game must be learned through experience, from other players, or through faqs, walkthroughs, and the like. For those who havent played previous Armored Cored games please read this section: This is a fast-paced mech game where you will have an assortment of armaments at your disposal to take down a variety of enemies. You will have everything from handguns, rifles, gatling guns, several energy weapons, and the famous blades and laser blades. Your enemies will be anything from helicopters to other armored cores. The Story and Order Missions will take you through the main story and side missions, but the main draw is playing against other players. A new feature to this games is the ability to form a Team. Your team will acrew points from your completed missions and battles, unlocking new parts. Your team can also stake your claim on a territory in any of the eight areas of the game. This feature allows you to have allies that will greatly help your chances when facing other players online. Lastly, you can also sign-up to be a mercenary, allowing yourself to be drafted into another players Story or Order mission. This helps spice things up a bit. Overall, you have yourself a difficult game that will surely leave you tweaking your Armored Core for days, weeks, and months to come. I havent played multiplayer so I cant speak for that. Ive been playing the AC series for years too and this is kind of a new level of boring. The AC construction gets boring really fast, you unlock more parts as you go through the story but those parts are more or less old parts with different skins and stats. Not like in previous AC titles where you unlock some fun looking laser rifles and awesome shoulder mounted grenade launchers. Painting/customizing is better though with more detailed paint jobs. Combat has improved with a change in the controls. Now when a weapon is empty you can swap it out with another you have stored on yourself. There is now a sort of rack/paper/scissors element to combat with weapons and armor being three different types: Kinetic, chemical, and energy. This kinda makes some enemies annoying as they can be resistant to your primary weapons forcing you to use more ammo on them. A fan of the series may want to try this, personally Im kinda turned off by it but will probably pick it up again later when the urge strikes. Whit that said, i must state that i am very satisfied with this mouse. Previously I was usig a generic small laptop mouse, so i got accustomed to smaller mice. i was fearing that the adaptation to this new product would be long and "painfull", however, for being a full size mouse the taipan is quite ligth weight. It is also a very sober alternative to the more flashy products designed for gamers (which i dont like): you can deactivate the razer logo back-light and it becomes a very subtle detail barely seeable in the mouse, so you can go to your office or laboratory and pretend to be a serious person. Considering my small mouse background i use a claw like grip, which is perfect for this mouse. Currently I dont use the side buttons, but they are prerfectly accesible (more on the thumb side) so i will certainly try to get some usefull functions linked to then trough the synapse program. overall 10/10 will buy more razer products in the future. This mouse has helped me improve my gameplay, in comparison to using a traditional mouse. The additional buttons are great and easy to use with keybinds. The design is sleek and the logo looks cool. This is a very good gaming mouse if you are looking for something "simple" in terms of gaming mouses that gets that job done, looks nice, and works well. Granted theyve made some products that were better than others, but relative to the products Ive tried, I would give them 6 stars out of 5. The first mouse I got from them, a Copperhead, lasted until a couple months ago (almost 10 years of active gaming), and its only the left click button which isnt responding (so still fixable). This one in particular, the Taipan, is no different than Copperhead, as in its an awesome piece of hardware! Very comfortable to use, light, ergonomic, a smooth texture/feel, high pointer precision, I have nothing bad to say about it. I was thoroughly sick of using my laptop touchpad to play Runescape and navigate through webpages it gets very annoying after my wireless mouse decided to die. I kind of like the fact that this mouse is wired so I dont have to worry about charging batteries and the cord is as long as needed, I actually never took the twist tie off of the extra cord and have an ample amount. The cord is not your typical rubbery electronic cord like your phone charger, it is like woven with some sort of cotton like cover and its very flexible so you dont have to deal with it being kinked or making it awkward to push the mouse around. I really like this mouse and it is very responsive and seems to be very smooth. I really like the fact that the scroll wheel and the logo on the mouse glow, it makes it easy to see in the dark and it looks really cool. The side buttons by default are programmed to go back and forward on webpages which is pretty cool. Overall I think this is a great mouse and would recommend it to a friend. Prior to having this mouse, I just used a standard Logitech wireless laptop mouse. It was on its last legs after some abuse though, so after doing some research I settled upon the Razer Taipan as something I wanted to try out. Pros: -Beautiful looking mouse. I got the white color scheme one and it is definitely pretty to look at. Also matches my white/black PC tower. -Comfortable to hold, although it is definitely for smaller hands like other reviewers have said (the reason I bought it, Ive got some baby hands). The rubber grips on either side underneath the side buttons make a super good thumb rest. I use kind of a claw grip, but it seems like it would be okay palm as well. Havent noticed any hand fatigue so far, including game sessions of 8+ hours. -The tracking on the mouse seems to be relatively top notch from my experience. Granted, I did just move from a $20 dollar wireless mouse, so there was bound to be improvement. -The adjustable DPI is a pretty nice feature, although the maximum this mouse allows (8200) is laughably unnecessary. After a couple days of experimenting playing various games, I got mine honed in at 2000, where it has been ever since. -Ludicrous initial setup aside, Razer Synapse hasnt given me any problems yet! (EDIT: jk lolz) Cons: -I have had a few severe tracking issues. The reason though, it would seem, is because the sensor is incredibly, incredibly sensitive to any interference. The first couple days after owning it, I noticed occasionally the tracking would just kind of seize up and start doing circles instead of straight lines. As far as I can tell, each time it has been from tiny specks of hair or fuzz getting in the path of the sensor. This is with a brand new, spotless mouse pad too. It is definitely frustrating when it happens, since the rest of the time it tracks excellently. -The glossy plastics making up the mouse are fairly slick, including the main left/right buttons. I havent really noticed it that badly when gaming, but they definitely seem like they would get bad quick if youve got some sweaty hands. -Occasionally upon starting a game, it seems like the mouse gets stuck at a sensitivity double of what it should actually be set at. It basically makes any games unplayable until I restart my computer (simply restarting the game, restarting Razer Synapse, or unplugging the mouse hasnt had any success). I have no idea what the source of this problem is, but Im going to go ahead and blame Razer Synapse because I have absolutely no idea what else it could be. All in all, after researching for something lightweight, good for smaller hands, and possessing the right amount of secondary buttons, I feel like I made the right decision, and am definitely happy with my purchase.
