The controls work well and pretty easy as you can order two other A.I. characters in your group to do certain task but you also have to take care of them as the team leader as unlike certain other games with this game your partners can be killed off anytime. So for fans of sci-fi alien invasion games or TPS this is one to take a look at though regardless of the naysayers in the end its the gamers choice. It tosses slight references and names of aliens/weapons around relating to the original XCom, but thats about it. There is no continuity what so ever from this and the more updated geo remake of xcom. I think they continued to push this game out to recover some profit of the time spent on it. Is it a completely horrible game? No. absolutely not. I rather enjoyed it. It does get a little repetative, and there are points where a real XCom nerd like me sees the full potential of how this game COULD have gone. Step back and enjoy it for what it is. a 3rd Person shooter, alien invasion, 1950s. There are cliches abound in the story, and nothing to really pull you in other than the time frame and relation to xcom. If youre on the fence pick it up at a price drop. Having ignored it’s development, I’m not sure what to expect, and while it may be impossible, I hope they can capture Nihei’s art style in motion. Knights of Sidonia could probably still be great if it was done by other artists because the story is so strong, but what sets this excellent comic apart is Nihei’s personal graphic flair, the way he can depict vast interstellar distance, crazy fast action and weapon impacts or explosions all in the same panel. Page 146 is a good example of what I’m talking about, as Tanikaze uses the new prototype to snipe at the approaching Gauna. While you’re at it, check out pages 54-55, my favorite art from this book, where poor Tanikaze once again forgets to knock and gets his nose bloodied in the awesomest way possible. I love this comic. This is one of my very favorite games of the past console generation, and my favorite franchise, as well. And on that subject, I would say that "A Crack in Time" is the best Ratchet and Clank adventure to date, though Im sure Insomniac is cooking up something extra special for the forthcoming "Into the Nexus", as well as whatever Lombax madness might be arriving on the highly vaunted PS4. If you are a Ratchet fan, you need this game in your collection. If youre a fan of platformers, you absolutely NEED to give this game a try. Ive never played a better platformer in my life, though Rayman Origins comes darned close (although the two are so different, its hard to make an adequate comparison - lets just agree that theyre both awesome). Whats particularly noteworthy about "A Crack in Time" is just how much there is to do in this crazy universe. The story-driven campaign is quite lengthy on its own, but I love revisiting the sectors that Ive already passed through. There, I can search moons and planets for additional challenges and collectibles, including gold bolts, zoni, and schematics for the ultimate weapon, the RYNO V. Additionally, I can answer distress calls from other star travelers and assist them, upgrade my spaceship, do battle with other ships, collect weapons and gadgets, focus on leveling up Ratchet AND all his crazy weapons, visit the coliseum for arena battles, and so forth. And as if all that wasnt enough, theres STILL the challenge mode (New Game+), trophies, AND a whole bunch of skill points to acquire. This is platforming perfection, and Ratchet and Clank gold. One of my favorite games of all time, I give it my highest possible recommendation. Its impossible to play this game and not have FUN, and just as impossible to not SMILE! Enjoy, space cadets! The game is nicely split between the adventures of Ratchet on one hand, and the adventures of Clank on the other (Clanks portion of the game is actually the most entertaining and amusing). Other than the great graphics, challenging gameplay, fun story and ribald humor that weve come to expect from this series, there are a lot of interesting aspects to this installment that make it a standout: hoverboots were a fantastic idea, they are tremendous fun to use; General Azimuth, one of the last remaining Lombaxes, is a fun companion; the voice acting in this game is some of the best Ive heard in a video game -- the best since Red Dead Redemption, which is arguably the best of all time; and the soundtrack in this one is really fantastic, puts you in the mood for a rousing space epic. I could only come up with two minor problems that keep this from being a five star classic: firstly the choice of weapons is surprisingly mediocre, certainly nowhere near as good as Tools of Destruction; and the lack of a female presence in the game is kind of a letdown -- if you are going to have a rousing space epic of game, it would be nice (from a male players POV) to have a good-looking, clever female sidekick with black belt in karate, a Princess Leia to your Han Solo. But these were only two minor flaws. Crack in Time is at least as good as the superb Tools of Destruction, and a worthy installment in the series. Previous knowledge isnt required, but there are occasional nods through the story. Those familiar with the series should know what to expect, and the game delivers: Outrageous weapons, bizarre alien worlds, silly fun with sci-fi tropes; its all there. The biggest change this time around is that the two title characters are separated for most of the game, due to events that took place at the end of the previous title. Ratchets gameplay remains the same, though his jumping skills are limited. Clanks, however, is completely new in that it deals with a lot of puzzle elements involving the use of "time clones" to coordinate series of platforming challenges. They can be surprisingly tricky, especially for those just here for the run-and-gun gameplay, but luckily these can be skipped if the game notices youre talking a long time to complete them. You lose out on some bonuses, but its nothing that will detract from the core experience. My only real complaint here is the new gimmick of Ratchets hover-boots. You get these several levels in, and they can be tricky to control, often leading to multiple deaths within certain portions of the level. Your experience may vary, but I wasnt a fan. All in all, though, if youre a fan of this series and havent gotten around to picking this up, its definitely worth your time. Tough, but fun as can be. Too bad about the install issues I listed in the original review. This woulda been a 4 or 5 star rating for the campaign play. Original review: I needed to get this review up right away to hopefully save others great frustration. Before you put the disc in your PS3 for the first time, disconnect from the Internet and DO NOT do the update. Only after the game has been installed should you attempt any updates. If you attempt to do the update right from the start along with the initial instal (as the pop up screen will ask you to do upon initial start-up) you may run into some very severe issues. I did as have many others. Google it. It can cause the game to not play and freeze on a black screen and then take several hours to delete the bad patch. So, just remember to disconnect from the web first. Then install the game. Then reconnect to the web and do any updates. You will be glad you did. If you did not have this problem, good for you. I did and so did many others. Like I said, google it. I have been playing the game for a couple of hours now. About half as much time as it took to deal with the install issues. Game seems fine. I dont imagine it sucking. However, it can never get better than 3 stars from me given the terrible software issue upon install. It was just rediculous. Note too that if you already did the update that causes the freezing and are trying to delete it, it can take over 2 hours to delete. I used to be really into the Xbox 360 and got in PS3 pretty late so I missed a lot of PS3 games when they first came out. After recently playing resistance 3 let me just say WOW! Where to begin? Ill split it into three sections. Here we go. Story: Even though you dont have to play the first two resistance games to know whats going on is recommend it. The story I thought was pretty good. I liked the characters and there were some parts where the story had me like aw why did that happen? Haha it had me really into it. Its fairly long too. I like to take some breaks when playin a game. I think it took me three days to finish up the single player story. Overall I thought it was good. Graphics: The graphics are pretty damn good in resistance 3. Id say its probably one of the best looking games on the PS3. Right next to uncharted games and kill zone 2 and 3. Gameplay: Gameplay is great. I do enjoy first person shooters. Resistance 3 has you in some pretty good gun fights. There are moments when youll be fighting alone. Others times youll be up against giant monsters in boss fights. You can also upgrade weapons you use in the game which is pretty cool. Verdict: Resistance 3 is a damn good game. I honestly regret not play this one back in the day. If you own a PS3 and havent played resistance 3 then shoot get out there and grab a copy. Its a lot of fun. Also if youre like me and have become spoiled with your character being able to regenerate from injuries without the aid of a health pack then expect some annoyance as this game is like that. You dont have the luxury of a self regenerating character and while it takes some massive damage to finish your character off unless you can find some health packs on every corner you have to be careful. Still the game is incredible and if you already have the first or second game then this is a definite must to add to your PS3 game library. The first one had clunky controls while 2 it was just difficult and stressful. 3 takes place after 2. The protagonist from 2 is killed from the new protagonist of 3. Although there was a cure the world is set in a devastating post apocalypse setting. I found this part as a what if scenario. As for the story driven I feel that 2 was slightly more interesting although 3 has its good qualities of a story. The graphics are better than the past two like a better update. The guns get some sort of upgrade after using them a lot. I cant go full in the games story details but its pretty great. Like most campaigns this one is fairly shorter than the other 2 but its still fun overall even a second gameplay. Capelli has to trek cross-country to New York in order to destroy a gigantic terraforming machine before it drops the temperature so low that the planet can no longer sustain human life. His journey takes you to a number of great locals, the variety of which is one of the best aspects of the game. You start in a rundown, bleak dust bowl of a village with few survivors. Soon youre fighting off hordes of enemies while traveling on a tug boat down a creepy, mist-covered river. Later youre trying to survive being captured by a bunch of crazed escaped inmates in a decrepit prison. Theres even a thrilling train sequence that reminded me of "Uncharted 2," and a nightmarish town that reminded me of Ravenholm from "Half-Life 2." The cool weapons are the other key to "R3s" success; all of them level up through use and can be accessed via the weapon wheel as in "R:FoM," replacing only holding 2 at a time as in "R2." One new weapon lets you freeze enemies solid and then shatter them into pieces. Another makes green bubbly spores develop and then explode. There was online competitive and co-op multiplayer, but the servers were shut off in April of 2014.
