Minimal protection, but thats what I was hoping for. The pattern on the back increases grip without increasing drag when removing it from a pocket. Has not shown much wear from daily use. What I would like to see is a model without the slot in the back for users who wont take advantage of the magnetic mount. That way the case would be thinner and slightly lighter. Thats all this case really needs to be perfect. Please manufacture a model that is thinner without the option for a plate and Ill buy that as well. Has protected my Note 8 from minor drops and scratches. The little indent in the back for a metal plate for magnet mounts is awesome. It still keeps its slim profile without added both the extra bulk, as well as unsightly view of a metal plate if it were adhered to the outside of the case. The texture of the surface keeps it relatively grippy in my hands but slides in and out of my pockets very easily. Only issue is sometimes the corners (which are slightly open between the panels), sometimes pulls lint or strings out of my pockets haha. Bought this case because of the recessed area for the plates that work with the magnetized car holders. This is really what sold me. Overall based off of price and good reviews and Im glad I did. The cradle for the ipad mini 4 fits nicely and has an opening on the back to prevent overheating. The cradle rotates to a vertical standing position, which is nice. Also, when youre leaning the pad back without using the little leather stop tab it sits at a nice angle for viewing and whatnot. My only gripes are: 1. The little gold-plated magnet at the end of the latch appears to be very easy to scratch, or the paint is just coming off naturally. Not a huge deal, really, but it is a minor annoyance. PROs: Decent price for a decent case. I like the design and the functionality CONs: The leather stop tab sort of sucks. A rippled speed-bump sort of surface would have been more appropriate. The cradle for the ipad mini 4 fits nicely and has an opening on the back to prevent overheating. The cradle rotates to a vertical standing position, which is nice. I previously had a case from Brookstone for my mini 2 that allowed me to prop up my ipad both vertically and horizontally. They discontinued it and I have been looking for a similar case since. For some reason almost no one make cases that enable us to prop the ipad mini horizontally AND vertically. Well, this one does! I just got it in navy. The material feels really nice and I am so happy that I can view my ipad either direction with this. The only negative is that in the horizontal mode, the magnet clip can tend to hang down over the screen at the top. But I think I can work with it to keep it from doing that.
