I have never written a review before, but I just had to mention that the craftsmanship on this charger will have you regretting your purchase after only a couple months. I bought this item in September 2011 and from daily use in February 2012 I have to throw it out. The way the wire connects to the battery pack, the black casing around the wires comes loose very easily over time. The exposed wires apparently touched while I was plugging the adaptor into my computer, causing an egg sized explosion and the electricity went out on one side of our apartment as a result. Okay so dont use an adaptor with exposed wires, you might say, for all this to be avoided; youll avoid the explosion but youll still have to return the product. I had this charger for only three months before it broke down. Adapter #2 just died (5 months after purchase). Hate Dell for designing such a poor adapter and for charging so much for an OEM, but cmon, it aint rocket science. At least use decent soldering and materials. Not recommended. (With the problems I and many other Dell laptop owners have with the adapter, I passed Dell by when purchasing a new laptop: I need a reliable charging accessory, and it just seems Dell doesnt either care enough to change the design or makes so much $$$ by selling adapters. Either way, just purchased an Acer 5830TG-6642 and really enjoy the speed, long battery life (up to 9 hours), and the common-sense adapter design.) I actually like this adapter better than my original because the cord is longer and it has a ground. This was my first time replacing my adapter and I was outraged when my local "Laptop Guy" shop tried to sell me some random universal adapter that had 10+ adapter plugs for over $70! So I sucked it up and went without my laptop for the 5-7 days it took for this adapter to get here - Saved myself $50+ and got a WAY better product! UPDATE: Ok, so I have used the adapter since August, maybe 3-4 hours a day if that. Now the power supply cord is VERY positional, meaning it has to lay in a very straight, parallel to the brick position in order for it to relay power. I am having to tape the cord in place until I can get a new one. Dell or not, skip this "deal." The power supply worked just fine for about a day. Then the green light started to go in and out whenever the unit was bumped or moved at all. I started to look for the reason why. During my search I noticed scratches in between where the pieces of the housing fit together (as if somebody had used a flathead screw driver to pry it open before). I decided to look a little further into the matter and pry it open myself. After I did, I noticed that the circuit had areas that looked like they had an extremely poor repair job done on it. It isnt worth the hassle to return, but I thought I could atleast jump on amazon and ensure other customers do not make the mistake of buying this product.
